After doing a lot of research about different training programs I chose YCB because of its comprehensiveness and depth of study of anatomy and philosophy. Unlike many teachers, Jonathan's focus is encouraging his students to find their own voices.  Not only did I learn a lot about yoga, I learned a lot about myself!

200 Hour Teacher Training

Bringing the Body into Balance

• Asana
• Anatomy
• Alignment
• Philosophy
• Health & Wellness
• Assists
• Therapeutics
• Karma Yoga
• Sequencing

Our teacher training is a comprehensive program centering on the fundamentals of asana teaching through the study of Anatomy and Alignment. We will rely heavily on the Anusara principles of alignment, giving a big nod to the Iyengar tradition, Body Mind Centering and Rolfing.

The philosophy section will focus on two yoga texts—The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali and The Bhagavad Gita.

The health and wellness section will focus on an Introduction to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of health care.

This training is designed to create an easy atmosphere for learning. We are all creative beings and there are a great number of brilliant artists out there who couldn’t bear to be bad on the road to being good. We will revel in process and indulge in the fact that all learning is trial and error. Our training will provide an environment where we can truly dive into the joy of learning and have a lot of laughs along the way to becoming teachers.

 Testimonials:

I was in a Yoga teachers training with Jonathan in 2004.  My first training for certification was in 2000, and while it was a great  education I found myself wanting to learn more about anatomy and  asana in a more intimate group.  I cannot recommend Jonathan highly  enough!  He is a master at training teachers to use their eyes, he is the most humble genius I know, his authentic low key approach is refreshing and inspires his students to find their own voices and styles.
~ Sasha Slocombe

I came out of Jonathan's teacher training feeling as if I knew enough about the body at work to both practice and teach anything (even yoga) with individuality and intelligence. Nothing is ever taken for granted at Yoga Center of Brooklyn; or taught by rote. We were always students and teachers, not parrots, learning together in a vigorous, egalitarian, knowledgeable and totally cozy environment. It's a unique opportunity in New York City yoga!
~ Minna Proctor

Studying with Jonathan has left quite an impression on my yoga practice and my teaching approach.  Jonathan's knowledge of subtle anatomy points is profound.  His enthusiasm for and curiosity about body-mechanics as it pertains to health and well-being are infectious.  Jonathan is a true yogi is his quest for self-knowledge.  He really takes to heart Swami Sivananda's advice "Inquire, who am I?  Know thyself and be free!"  What's more, he has a gift for imparting this deep lesson of yoga to others.
 ~ Emma Kohn

I took Jonathan's teacher training early in my yoga practice, so I had much to learn. I found a much better understanding of the anatomy and how proper alignment can free the body to ease of movement. Learning specifically how I might address some of my own physical limitations through Yoga, as well as others from the training, has been a great help in strengthening my practice and my own alignment over time. The training also helped me on a spiritual level, by beginning to look inward and face myself with grace from within. This is obviously a life long endeavor, which I am very grateful to have begun.
